Godly Sorrow

2 Cor 7:10-11

"For godly sorrow produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly sorrow produces death. For behold, what earnestness this godly sorrow has produced in you!"

The fundamental distinction: godly sorrow (kata theon lype) leads to repentance (metanoia) and salvation; worldly sorrow (tou kosmou lype) leads to death. Godly sorrow is productive — it produces earnestness, defense, indignation, fear, longing, zeal, and punishment.
