Colossians — Chapter 4

Prayer, Wisdom, and Final Greetings

"Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time."

— Col 4:5

Colossians 4 concludes with practical exhortations on prayer, witness, and relationships, and a list of collaborators that reveals the communal nature of apostolic ministry.

🙏 Prayer and Witness (4:2-6)

Col 4:2-4
"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison."
Paul in prison requests prayer not for release, but for open doors for the Gospel. Prayer is steadfast (proskarterein), watchful (gregorountes), and thankful (eucharistia).
Col 4:5-6
"Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."
The Christian witness: (1) wisdom in relationships with non-believers; (2) 'making the best use of the time' (exagorazomenoi ton kairon) — seizing every opportunity; (3) words 'seasoned with salt' — preserving, flavorful, honest.
