The River of Life and the Final Invitation

"Come! And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price."

— Rev 22:17

Revelation 22 is the final chapter of the Bible — the river of life, the last promises of Christ, and the eternal invitation to the Gospel.

🌊 The River of Life (22:1-5)

Rev 22:1-2
"Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations."
The river of life echoes Ezek 47 and Gen 2 — the new creation restores Eden and surpasses it. The tree of life (denied in Gen 3:24) is now accessible to all. The twelve monthly fruits — continuous abundance, never scarcity. The leaves for the healing of the nations — the cure for all human division and conflict.

🔔 The Final Invitation (22:12-21)

Rev 22:12-13
"Behold, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."
Christ identifies Himself as Alpha and Omega — the same title given to God in 1:8. The coming is imminent (tachy — without delay). The reward is proportional to works — not as merit for salvation, but as a reward for faithfulness.
Rev 22:17-20
"The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price... The one who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!"
The final invitation of the Bible: the Spirit and the Church invite the world. The water of life is free (dorean) — the Gospel has no price. The last prayer of the Bible: 'Come, Lord Jesus!' (Erchou Kyrie Iesou) — the prayer of the Church through the centuries. The Bible ends with an invitation and a promise.
