Romans — Chapter 15

The Example of Christ and Paul's Plans

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing."

— Rom 15:13

Romans 15 concludes the ethical section with the example of Christ as a model of service to the weak, Paul's mission to the Gentiles, and his plans to visit Rome and Spain.

🙏 Christ as a Model of Service (15:1-13)

Rom 15:1-3
"Now we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. For even Christ did not please himself."
The final argument: Christ is the supreme model of not pleasing Himself. He, being God, humbled Himself and served (Phil 2:5-11).
Rom 15:7-9
"Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."
The mutual reception between Jews and Gentiles in the Church is grounded in Christ’s reception. The unity of the Church is not uniformity — it is diversity united by the same Lord.

🌍 Paul's Mission to the Gentiles (15:14-33)

Rom 15:20-24
"And thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, so that I do not build on someone else’s foundation... when I go to Spain, I will come to you."
Paul describes his missionary strategy: to preach where Christ has not yet been named — the frontiers of the Gospel. His plan: Jerusalem → Rome → Spain. Spain was the westernmost part of the Roman world — 'the ends of the earth' of Acts 1:8.
